Herbs-Aplenty started in 1994 with a small nursery and herb products. Lavender was established as the first commercial crop - this was soon extended to include a variety of herbs suitable for the Cape climate. Several indigenous herbs with potentially valuable volatile oil are still in the research stage.

Over the years with extensive R&D the company has grown into a multidisciplinary entity.

The nursery supplies 1 000 000 plants per year to growers. Recent expansions to nursery facility's will increase the capacity to 7 million units per year

Extensive experience in the field of essential oils – from testing of plant material, agricultural practices, distillation methods to marketing -enables the company to be the leader in support services to new and established farmers.

The company's affiliate Cape Essential Oil Services operates two mobile extraction and processing facilities.

Currently 200 tons of plant material are processed into essential oil.Most of these oils were marketed by HERBS-APLENTY. Production under current plantings will increase to 600 - 1000 tons of plant material by 2007

In 2004 the mother business was unbundled into HERBS-APLENTY (PTY) LTD and CAPE ESSENTIAL OIL SERVICES (PTY) LTD.

HERBS-APLENTY (PTY) LTD handles the nursery, promotion, consultation, training, and marketing. Offices situated at Bien Donne werf, Groot Drakenstein Western Cape RSA.

Pietersarel de Bruyn (left) is MD of HERBS-APLENTY. He qualified as an agricultural economist at the University of Stellenbosch where he also obtained post-graduate degrees. He has been involved with essential oils for more than 10 years. Cel 0823385550.

Elmarie de Bruyn (middle) is in charge of marketing, sales, training and product developement. She studied mathematical sciences and language sciences at University Pretoria and Unisa, was engaged in the design and tourism industries before she focused on natural plant extracts and products 15 years ago.
