| Buchu |
Buchu – Agathosma betulina. Main components isomenthone, diosphenol, menthone, limonene. Anti-septic and diuretic properties. Flavour enhancer. Oil taste : minty camphoraceous, sweet berry, catty, tropical guava, apricot and peach, green herbal nuances. The oil is also used in perfumes such as colognes and chypr P bases, and for fruity notes. Oil Odour : Sulphurous, green, minty, cooling camphoraceous, sweet, fruity, dirty, berry, musty, catty, with vegetative and fruity nuances of peach and apricot. In the Pharmacopoeias, buchu is categorised as a urinary tract antiseptic and diuretic. AROMATHERAPY PROPERTIES: Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, carminative, disinfectant, diuretic, insecticide, stimulant, tonic. ALSO A crenulata, A ovata.

| Cape chamomile |
Cape chamomile – Eriocephalus punctulatus. Cape Chamomile This is in fact a misnomer ....it is an indigenous plant and is locally known as "wild rosemary". The essential oil is steam-distilled from the flowering tops, leaves and soft twigs and has a dark blue colour with a fresh fruity fragrance (a strong camomile-like note). The oil is largely composed of fragrant esters, mostly 2-methylpropyl 2-methylpropionate, 2-methylbutyl 2-methylpropionate and linalyl acetate. The blue colour is due to the azulenic compounds : 1,4-dimethylazulene and 1,4-dimethyl-7-ethyl azulene. The volatile oil has a very low taste threshold value and appears to have great potential as a flavour enhancer. The volatile oil seems to have extensive potential use in high-class perfumes. The oil also has stress-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. AROMATHERAPY PROPERTIES: Analgesic, anti-allergic,anti-convulsive, antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, cholagogic, diuretic, emmenagogue, febrifuge, hepatic, nervine, sedative, splenetic, stomachic, sudorific, tonic, vermifuge, vasoconstricor.

Cape snowbush – Eriocephalus africanus. Believed to be a mood enhancer and sedative. Main constituents linalyl acetate, cymene, 1,8-cineole, many sequiterpinoids. Snowbush oil is suited to fruit flavours. It has been used traditionally to enhance the flavour of meat and legumes. AROMATHERAPY PROPERTIES: Antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, balsamic, bechic, carminative, cephalic, decongestive, digestive, diuretic, haemostatic, restorative, sedative, stomachic, styptic, sudorific, tonic, vulnerary.

Cape May – Coleonema album. Cape May oil is clear in colour with a fresh herby fragrance and an interesting pepper note. The fragrance is reminiscent of the Cape Fynbos . Main components are myrcene, phellandrene, pinene, ocimene, germacrene-D. AROMATHERAPY PROPERTIES: Antiseptic, deodorant, diuretic, febrifuge, insecticide, sedative, restorative.

| Cape wormwood |
Cape wormwood – Artemesia affra. Artemisia affra with main components 1,8 cineol, thujone and artemisia ketone. The oil is similar to the European wormwood ( A. absinthium ) in fragrance and composition. It has a powerful top note with a fresh and penetrating cineole-camphor note, followed by a spicy note. Believed to be an effective antimicrobial agent, traditionally used for a range of medical conditions like colds, fever and stomach disorders. AROMATHERAPY PROPERTIES: Anthelmintic, antiseptic, choleretic, emmenagogue, febrifuge, insect repellent, narcotic, stimulant (digestive), tonic, vermifuge.

Cape verbena – Lippia javanica. The oil of Zinziba is red-brown in colour, with a pleasant, fruity and sweet smell with a peppery top note. Somewhat reminiscent of tagette oil. At times a honey-like note comes through. AROMATHERAPY PROPERTIES: Analgesic, antidepressant, antipruritic, antiseptic, bechic, deodorant, disinfectant, emollient, expectorant, febrifuge, hemostatic, insecticide, restorative.
